Carving

Johnny likes to listen to what each piece of wood “wants” to become. Responding to the spirit of the tree, he takes his time. Johnny respects the wood; he does this by following the natural grains of the wood to find what it is for it to become.
He started carving in 2005 and is self-taught. He did not want to be influenced by the teachings of others; he wanted his creations to be as authentic as possible. True to who he is as a human being, working with a natural material, and as an Indigenous 2Spirit person. Johnny insisted on being guided by what was within him and to be guided by his ancestors.
